Required Supplies 

  • Mild dish soap, diluted in warm water (a few drops per cup of water) 
  • Alternative: Simple Green, diluted per label instructions 
  • Two soft microfiber cloths 
  • Small container for the diluted cleaning solution 

 Procedure 

  1. Dust the surface with a dry microfiber cloth to remove loose debris prior to introducing any liquid. 
  2. Prepare the cleaning solution by combining a small amount of mild dish soap with warm water, or by diluting Simple Green according to the manufacturer’s instructions. 
  3. Dip a microfiber cloth into the solution and wring it out thoroughly, ensuring it is damp rather than wet. 
  4. Wipe the surface using straight, even strokes. 
  5. For areas with stubborn residue, allow the damp cloth to rest on the affected spot for 10 to 15 seconds to loosen the material before wiping again. 
  6. Follow with a clean, dry microfiber cloth to remove any remaining moisture or soap residue and to prevent streaking. 
  7. Inspect the surface under adequate lighting for missed spots or streaking and spot clean as necessary. 

 Precautions 

  • Use microfiber cloths exclusively. Paper towels, sponges, or any other cloth material may create fine scratches or dull the powder coat finish over time. 
  • Avoid allowing excess water to pool on the surface. 
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, or any gritty material. 
  • If using Simple Green, do not exceed the recommended contact time before wiping off; prolonged exposure to concentrated cleaner may affect certain finishes. 
  • Test any unfamiliar cleaning product in an inconspicuous area first if uncertain about its effect on the finish.

  • Optional: Extra-soft bristle brush (like a soft toothbrush) for detailed areas 
  • Small container for the diluted cleaning solution 
  • Dry cloth for final wipe-down 

Procedure 

  1. De-energize the fixture prior to beginning. Switch off power at the wall and/or shut off the corresponding circuit breaker. Verify the fixture is fully de-energized before applying any moisture to the cord. 
  2. Inspect the cord thoroughly for any signs of cracking, fraying, or wear prior to cleaning. Do not proceed if any such damage is present; instead, have the cord evaluated by a qualified electrician. 
  3. Prepare the cleaning solution by combining a small amount of mild dish soap with warm water. 
  4. Dip the cloth into the solution and wring it out thoroughly, ensuring it is damp rather than wet. 
  5. Wipe the cord along its length using the damp cloth, following the direction of the weave to avoid disrupting the fabric structure. 
  6. Apply light, even pressure throughout, allowing the moisture and soap to loosen soiling rather than relying on force. 
  7. For areas of embedded debris within the nylon webbing, gently agitate the area with the soft-bristle brush, using minimal pressure. 
  8. Gently wipe the cord with a clean, dry cloth to remove residual moisture. 
  9. Allow the cord to air dry completely for a minimum of several hours, longer in humid conditions, before restoring power to the fixture. 

Precautions 

  • Do not make contact with the cord, socket, or any exposed conductive components while the fixture remains energized. 
  • Excessive pressure will cause the cloth sheath to fray or develop a fuzzed texture. Maintain a light touch throughout the process, particularly when using the brush. 
  • Do not submerge the cord or permit water to accumulate near plug ends, sockets, or electrical connection points. 
  • Avoid scrubbing motions; limit contact to gentle wiping along the direction of the weave. 
  • Do not use harsh detergents, bleach, or abrasive cleaning agents, as these may discolor or degrade the fabric sheath. 
  • Confirm the cord is completely dry before restoring power. Residual moisture near electrical wiring presents a risk of shock or fire.
